Setting up your eLaunceston Journal |
Your eLaunceston journal is created and maintained in your eLaunceston WebSpace. You will need to set up
your eLaunceston WebSpace before you can access your journal. Once this has been
set up, you can add new entries to your journal easily using any text editor, such as Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac).
Adding your first journal entry
- Connect to your eLaunceston WebSpace. Locate the "journal" folder within your WebSpace folder.
- Open a text editor (Notepad, TextEdit) and type your journal entry. The first line of your entry will
appear bold in your journal, as shown below:

- Save the file (with any name you choose) in the "journal" folder within your WebSpace folder.
(Alternatively, you can save the file to another location, and drag it into the "journal" folder.)
Be sure the file has the ".txt" extension on the filename.
- Check your entry by visiting your journal page: http://www.elaunceston.com/cgi-bin/user.cgi/YOUR USER NAME/journal
- Note: New journal entries are added to the top of your journal. If you edit an older entry, it will appear at the top of your journal.

Customising your eLaunceston Journal |
Your eLaunceston journal is fully customisable in terms of look and feel. By default, all eLaunceston journals use a default
template provided by the system, but this layout can be overridden by creating your own template and placing it within your
eLaunceston WebSpace.
Creating a custom template
- Connect to your eLaunceston WebSpace. Locate the "journal" folder within your WebSpace folder.
- Each journal template has three basic HTML templates that determine the layout. These are as follows:

- Save or copy the files to the "journal" folder within your WebSpace folder.
- Check your entry by visiting your journal page: http://www.elaunceston.com/cgi-bin/user.cgi/YOUR USER NAME/journal
- Note: If you want to go back to the original eLaunceston template, simply delete "head.html", "story.html" and "foot.html" from your "journal" directory.
